The flowers are its most striking feature. In late winter to very early spring, before the leaves emerge, the bare branches are covered with fragrant, ribbon-like flowers. The petals are a unique and stunning coppery-orange to rusty-red color, often with a subtle red calyx cup. The leaves are large, broadly oval, and have a rich, medium-green color throughout the summer.
