It's a small, deciduous, often multi-trunked tree that typically grows to a height of 12 to 18 feet with a similar spread. It is known for its spectacular display of wine-red to rosy-magenta flowers that appear on bare branches in early spring before the leaves emerge. The leaves are glossy, thick and dark green, giving it a more polished appearance than the standard Eastern redbud.
