Small, glossy, dark green leaves with finely serrated edges. Unlike many other hollies, the leaves have no spines. New growth often emerges with a yellow-green or smoky purple tint. Excellent tolerance for heat, drought (once established) and a variety of soil conditions (including clay). It is also generally deer-resistant.
