Leatherleaf Mahonia
Leatherleaf Mahonia
The Leatherleaf Mahonia is upright, somewhat gangly, and sparsely branched. The growth is usually vertical, creating a tiered or umbrella-like canopy of leaves. It forms large, stiff, dark green, compound leaves composed of leathery, dull green, spiny leaflets. The foliage is held horizontally and looks like a large fern or palm frond. Clusters of fragrant, pale yellow flowers emerge from candle-like terminal buds. The flowers are held in upright or drooping spikes. It is often considered a reliable, low-maintenance option.
