This compact, rounded, deciduous shrub produces abundant clusters of large, double (multi-petaled) flowers that resemble camellias, with up to 31-49 petals each. The blooms are a vibrant, intense orange—often described as bright, rich, or candy-like—and put on a spectacular show from early to late spring (sometimes extending into early summer). The flowers appear profusely along the branches before or as the leaves emerge, creating a striking display when many other plants are still bare.
