Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac
Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac
This selection is a glossy, blue-green, compound with three leaflets, resembling poison ivy but completely non-toxic and safe to handle. When crushed or brushed against, they release a strong, pleasant lemony or spicy citrus fragrance—hence the "fragrant" name. The flowers are small, yellowish clusters that emerge in early spring (March-April), before or with new leaves—attractive to early pollinators. The fall colors are outstanding! The foliage turns brilliant shades of red, orange, scarlet, burgundy, or purple—one of its biggest selling points in landscapes. It is extremely hardy and drought-tolerant once established, and adaptable to poor, dry, rocky, or clay soils. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, handles urban conditions well, and is low-maintenance.
