Burkwood Viburnum
Burkwood Viburnum
The Burkwood Viburnum is prized primarily for its incredible fragrance. It is a hybrid shrub that brings a more refined, semi-evergreen texture to the garden. In mid-spring, it produces spicy, clove-scented flower clusters. The fragrance is powerful enough to drift across a yard, making it a perfect choice for planting near windows or patios. Flowers start as pink buds and open into 2- to 3-inch wide white "snowballs." The leaves are dark, glossy green and leathery. In warmer climates, it remains evergreen; in the north, it may turn a deep maroon in autumn before dropping. Small red fruits appear in late summer, eventually turning black. They are less showy than 'Blue Muffin' but still attract birds.
