A multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a dense, mounding, and ground-hugging habit of growth. The leaves are tiny, glossy, and dark green throughout the spring and summer, creating a fine, delicate texture. The tiny, glossy leaves turn a brilliant brick-red to deep burgundy in the autumn. In late spring or early summer, it produces small, often inconspicuous clusters of white or light pink flowers along the branches, which are attractive to pollinators. The flowers are followed by highly ornamental, magnificent red berries (cranberry-sized) in late summer to fall. These berries often persist into the winter, adding great cold-season appeal and attracting birds.
