The foliage is this plant's most striking feature. It forms a rosette of sword-shaped leaves that are a vibrant golden-yellow down the center, flanked by green margins. This coloration is present year-round, providing a brilliant splash of color in every season, including winter. In cooler weather, the outer green margins can take on a lovely pink or red blush. The leaves also have fine, white, curly filaments along the edges. In mid-summer, a tall, impressive flower stalk emerges from the center of the rosette, rising several feet above the foliage. The stalk is covered with large, bell-shaped, fragrant, creamy-white flowers that hang in a showy spire.
